What Is RC Dirt Oval Racing?

Drivers control radio-controlled race vehicles around a dirt oval through practice, qualifying heats, and feature races. Success comes from smooth driving, preparation, patience, and consistency—not just maximum speed.

  • Family-friendly and community driven
  • Beginner-friendly classes are available
  • You can visit and watch before buying
  • Experienced racers can help review equipment

Start With Sportsman

Sportsman is the recommended starting class because it uses a durable platform, controlled equipment, widely available parts, and a natural path toward Super Stock Slash.

Coach’s CornerYour first goal is not winning. Your first goal is completing clean laps and understanding the race-day routine.
Rookie ChallengeVisit The Park Speedway before purchasing equipment. Introduce yourself and ask to see a Sportsman truck.

Hands-On Route

Dedicated Sportsman Build

Choose each component around the class rules and learn how the truck works.

  • Build directly for Sportsman
  • Learn maintenance and repairs
  • Choose your body and tires
  • Natural path to Super Stock Slash
Budget Route

Used Race Package

Often the lowest-cost way to obtain a race-prepared vehicle and useful extras.

  • May include battery and charger
  • Spare parts may be included
  • Previous owner can explain setup
  • Condition and legality must be checked
Rule ReminderThe class rules—not the product description—determine whether a vehicle is legal. Ask before buying or converting parts.
3Build Your Rookie KitGather only the equipment you actually need. +

Sportsman-legal vehicle or approved starting platform.

Legal 2S LiPo battery in safe condition.

Proper balance charger with storage mode.

Compatible transmitter and receiver.

Hex drivers, wheel wrench, pliers, body clips, and tape.

Installed and registered if required for scoring.

Money SaverDo not buy every upgrade immediately. Spend money only when you understand which problem the part is solving.
4Race Your First EventFollow the day from packing at home through the feature. +

Balance-charge safely and verify voltage.

Truck, radio, charger, tools, chair, cord, water, and spares.

Enter Sportsman and provide your transponder number.

Battery, electronics, tires, body, and rules may be checked.

Learn the line and braking points instead of racing other cars.

Focus on clean laps and listening to race control.

Watch traffic, flip cars quickly, and never repair a car on track.

Finish as many clean laps as possible and enjoy the accomplishment.

Ask one racer what you did well and what to practice next.

Common MistakeDo not judge your first race by finishing position. Judge it by how many clean laps you completed and how much you learned.
5Grow Beyond Your First RaceMaintain the truck, improve your driving, and move up when ready. +

Keep Improving

  • Complete more clean laps each race
  • Practice smooth corner entry and exit
  • Learn basic maintenance and inspection
  • Ask questions before changing setup
  • Stay in Sportsman until you feel comfortable

Your Next Goal

When you can hold a predictable line, pass safely, understand race procedures, and maintain the truck, consider Super Stock Slash or more advanced 1/10-scale classes.

Coach’s CornerMove up because you are ready for a new challenge—not because you feel rushed.

Your Rookie Passport

Check off each milestone as you complete it during your visit.
