Track History

Oval Racing in North Vernon City Park

The current RC speedway carries forward a much older connection between the park, oval racing, and community gatherings.

A Continuing Tradition

Old Fairgrounds. New Scale. Same Oval Spirit.

North Vernon City Park once served as fairgrounds and included a horse-racing dirt oval and grandstand. The Park Speedway preserves that racing identity through modern RC competition.

Late 1800s

The property served as a gathering place for fairgrounds activities and community events.

Early 1900s

A horse-racing dirt oval and grandstand reflected the park’s connection to oval competition.

1954

The City of North Vernon officially acquired the property as a public park.

Today

The Park Speedway continues the oval-racing tradition with RC dirt-track competition.

Community Focus

Powered by People

The track depends on racers, volunteers, families, local supporters, and hobby businesses working together.

Welcoming New Racers

The Rookie Program, Sportsman class, and trackside help give first-time racers a practical route into organized RC competition.

Sportsmanship First

Respect for turn marshals, officials, competitors, families, and city park visitors is central to every race day.

Volunteer Supported

Track preparation, scoring, technical inspection, event promotion, and race-day operations rely on people contributing their time and experience.
